What Can VA Health Chat Do for You?

Through the app, you can talk to a real person to ask questions about your health concerns. You can get medical advice for non-life-threatening injuries or illnesses. You can even schedule VA appointments, refill VA prescriptions, and more, at no additional cost.

How to use VA Health Chat

To access the app, sign in to My HealtheVet. A blue VA Health Chat message box will appear in the lower right corner of the My HealtheVet page if the app is available to you. You can also access VA Health Chat on the VA App Store or download it on the Apple App Store or Google Play. For security reasons, you’ll need to sign in to the app with VA-supported credentials. You may use your Login.gov, ID.me, My HealtheVet Premium, or DS Logon Level 2 (Premium) account.

VA Health Chat channel names are changing

When you sign in to VA Health Chat, a list of options will appear. We call these channels. Your channels will vary depending on what services are available at your location. Select a channel based on what you need help with. 

VA Health Chat is updating its channel names to better match the services provided. You may also see new channels over time as your location expands its services. Here are the channels that may be available to you:

  • Clinical Triage (previously Nursing): Get medical advice for non-life-threatening injuries or illnesses. 

  • Pharmacy Support (previously Pharmacy): Refill or ask questions about VA prescriptions. 

  • Scheduling and Administration (previously Scheduling): Schedule VA appointments or ask other administrative questions.

  • Virtual Clinic Visits (Urgent Care) (previously Urgent Care): Get medical advice for injuries or illnesses needing immediate care, but not serious enough to need an emergency room visit.

  • Community Care: Get care from community providers.

  • Whole Health: Ask questions about your whole health and well-being. 

  • Women’s Health: Get women-specific care. 

New channel names won’t change the help you’ll receive. VA staff members are committed to providing the same exceptional service and care you’ve been receiving through VA Health Chat.

VA Health Chat availability

VA Health Chat is available to Veterans at select locations. You can confirm that VA Health Chat is available to you by visiting the VA App Store. Select your state from the drop-down menu to find your VA health care system, medical center, or clinic. If your location isn’t listed, please check back monthly. VA is expanding this service rapidly so that every Veteran will soon have access to VA Health Chat.
