Get Your No-Cost Flu and COVID Shots
Learn about recommended vaccines and how to get your no-cost shots
Staying up to date with your vaccines protects your health. Recommended vaccines are based on your age, sex, health status, and family history. You can check for vaccines you may need on VA's Staying Healthy Preventative Care Recommendation Charts for men and women.
You can start protecting yourself by getting your flu and COVID-19 vaccines (shots). Most people 6 months and older should get an updated flu and COVID shot this year. Your local VA medical clinic offers free flu and COVID shots to enrolled Veterans. Eligible Veterans can also get no-cost flu and COVID shots at retailers and pharmacies within their communities. This includes anyone enrolled in VA who received care from a VA or in-network community provider in the past 24 months.
Why get flu and COVID shots?
Flu and COVID shots help reduce illness, hospitalization, and death from the influenza (flu) and COVID-19 viruses. Each year in the U.S., millions of people get sick with the flu and COVID, resulting in hundreds of thousands needing to be hospitalized and tens of thousands dying. Flu and COVID shots are your best protection against these viruses. Learn more with VA's interactive flu vaccine tool and COVID-19 vaccine tool.
Which vaccines should I get?
Flu season begins each fall and can last well into spring. This year's flu season is expected to coincide with outbreaks of COVID-19 and another virus called Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). If you are 75 years or older, or are 60 to 74 years old with certain risk factors, you should get an RSV shot in addition to flu and COVID shots. You only need one lifetime RSV shot. If you got one last year, you don’t need another.
You can safely get more than one vaccine during one visit.
Learn more from the CDC about flu, COVID-19 and RSV. Now is a good time to call your local VA medical center or community pharmacy to see if vaccines are available. If you plan to travel soon, find out if you can get your shots before you go.
Where can I get my vaccines?
